Divan Introductions: IS Tom Holmes, Potentate; Ray Clark (for Steve Jordan), Chief Rabban; Allan Ake, Assistant Rabban; Jim Burger (for Gary Sears), High Priest and Prophet; IS Billy Thornburg (for Roger Mendenhall), Oriental Guide; Larry Newman, Treasurer; IS Bart Guthrie, Recorder; Brian Bate, 1st Ceremonial Master; Steve Gresley, Director; Don Niles, Marshal; Ken Henry, Chaplain; Phil Allison, Captain of the Guard; and Wayne McKey (pinch hitting as Outer Guard). Dave Salberg, Grand Lecturer from the MW Grand Lodge was introduced.

Chaplain Henry led in the Invocation; the Legion of Honor presented The Colors; IS Tom led in the Pledge of Allegiance; and Noble Les Bailey sang the National Anthem.

IS Tom then opened the meeting at 7:45pm.

Noble Steve Gresley was installed by Noble Larry Newman as Director for the remainder of 2009. He will replace Noble Jim Johnson who has taking a job out of country.

The minutes from the August 28, 2009 meeting were approved as published on the Al Kaly web site.

The Treasurer’s report was given and accepted.

Correspondence. There was no correspondence; but, the Recorder promoted Megan Johnson’s latest book. Copies were available for sale after the stated meeting.

Three petitions were favorably balloted on. They are: Daniel Barnes, 1st/2nd line signer Billy Swartz/Phil Allison; Jorge Chavez, 1st/2nd line signer Curtis Payne/Scot Autry; and George Mentz, 1st/2nd line signer Tom Leucht/IS Bart Guthrie

Demit. Ernest F. Olson to Abou Ben Adhem Shriners.

Old Business.

The By Law change resolution was read by IS Bart. It was moved/seconded to proceed with the vote. With no discussion the vote was taken. It was unanimous to make the changes.

The dues increase resolution was read by Treasurer Larry. It was moved/seconded to proceed with the vote. IS David Stevens spoke in opposition of the resolution. After some discussion a written ballot was taken. Present to vote were 55. The required number need for the resolution to pass was 36.685 (or 37). The vote was 36 yes, 19 no. The resolution failed.

New Business. None

Awards. Appropriate medals and stars were presented to nobles. Their names will appear in the December 2009 Dust.

Reports from Members, Clubs, Units, and Committees.

Noble Bob Bills stated that he had prepared a slide show of CSSA events that would be presented at the CSSA Appreciation on October 3, 2009.

IS David Stevens discussed the success of CSSA 2009 and thanked those that participated.

AR Allan Ake (also CSSHP President) thanked those that helped make the horse patrol competition a success. Noble Allan also promoted the upcoming Al Kaly Basketball Tournament to be held on November 20 & 21, 2009, games at 1, 3, 5, and 7:00pm. He encouraged units/clubs to sell ads as it is a great opportunity for them to make money.

IS Tom reminded us of the upcoming Ceremonial and Ladies Luncheon on November 14, 2009. He then turned in the by laws for the newly formed Fin Twister Unit, a diving unit. President will be Noble Eric Hinebaugh. Dues are $20 for nobles and $10 for family members.

IS Bill Sheard reported that IS Newell Hall and Bro. Gordon Cooper were in poor health.

Noble Rob Cordrey informed us of the Potentate’s Escort OV on December 10, 2009.

Noble Ray Clark stated that the Public Relations Unit recently had a good meeting. There are three divisions to the unit: Web activities, Dust, and Outreach.

Noble Fred Kiger reminded us of the unofficial parade in Penrose, October 3, 2009.

IS Dan Neu informed us that IS Bud Moore had been confined to home for health related reasons.

Noble Grant Anderson reported that Noble Doc Phelps was recovering from an operation.

1CM Brian Bate emphasized the importance of fund raisers for Al Kaly and encouraged all nobles to attend them and participate in them.

Noble Phil Allison explained the December 18 “A Classic Broadmoor Christmas” event.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:10pm.
